BELL
Expands to Springfield and Detroit
At a time when summer education programs are becoming more of a national priority, BELL is establishing itself at the forefront of this movement. The growth and outcomes of BELL Summer are evidence that high-quality summer learning opportunities are becoming available for more children who need them. This summer, BELL has the tremendous opportunity to educate thousands more children in two new regions, Detroit, MI and Springfield, MA, while our existing program in New York City will double in size. BELL will continue its service in Boston and Baltimore and in total, will help direct more than 3,000 children on a trajectory of achievement, leadership and success this summer. Boston, MA and Boys of BELL We will be conducting our single-gender pilot program, Boys of BELL, for the third year in Boston. Offered in addition to our co-ed sites, Boys of BELL will provide more than 750 male youth with a high-quality program model that includes a broad range of enrichment activities provided in partnership with some of Boston's most outstanding science, art and cultural organizations. New York, NY In New York, the BELL Summer program will double in size as a second site is opened, providing year-round education opportunities to at least 500 scholars. Baltimore, MD In Baltimore, we strive to continue the tremendous success of last year's partnership with the Baltimore City Public School System, which helped pave the way for BELL's expansion into two new regions this year. Springfield, MA In partnership with Springfield Public Schools, BELL will educate 800 scholars at 11 schools this summer. Springfield will be the first region in which BELL will serve eighth-graders, giving BELL the exciting opportunity to help our scholars with the difficult transition to high school. Detroit, MI In Detroit, we will serve 760 scholars this summer in some of the city's highest poverty areas through a fee-for-service model. Principals of the six schools that BELL is serving understand the impact of summer learning loss on their students and are working with BELL on an innovative funding model to bring a 6 week, 8 hour a day, 5 day a week program to their students. BELL is confident that the summer learning gains that we have delivered in other markets will be repeated in Detroit and will represent a pilot program with outcomes that will encourage local leaders to fund an expansion of summer programming and quality after school programming in the city to help the children who need it the most.
