To commemorate the historic inauguration of Barack Obama, BELL scholars engaged in a letter-writing campaign to the President called "Your Story is My Story." Every BELL scholar wrote a letter to President Obama sharing their feelings about the election and their hopes for his presidency.
Maryland Representative Elijah Cummings, Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh, and New York Representatives Yvette Clark and Joseph Crowley hand-delivered the scholars' letters to President Obama's staff.
As a U.S. Senator, Obama has shown support for out-of-school-time programs through the STEP UP Act, modeled after BELL programs. Our hope is that he continues this support during his presidency, making out-of-school-time learning a national priority.
