Organizational Overview: BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life) is a community-based, non-profit, educational organization founded in 1992 by a group of Black students at Harvard Law School. Its mission is to enhance the academic performance and life opportunities of Black and Latino elementary school children living in low-income, urban communities. BELL offers summer and after-school enrichment programs to over 12,500 scholars each year in Boston, New York City and Baltimore, has just expanded into Springfield, Massachusetts and Detroit, and is currently planning for further expansion to Broward County, Florida. BELL’s school-based programs are characterized by small-group tutoring and mentoring, curriculum-based instruction, rigorous evaluation of results, and strong training programs for staff. Position Overview: BELL is seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial and dedicated Regional Director to oversee the expansion of programs into Southeastern Florida. The Florida Regional Director will help to build and manage a team to ensure the successful launch of BELL’s summer and after-school programs in Broward, Miami/Dade and Palm Beach Counties. A key member of BELL’s leadership, this person will lead the development and implementation of a launch strategy within the region, grow the new school market and work in partnership with both local and national staff members to continually improve organizational operating systems while increasing the impacts of our programs.

Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the Chief Strategy Officer and COO, Field Operations, develop and implement a successful launch strategy in Southeast Florida
  • Ensure quality in service delivery by overseeing excellent program implementation across all sites for all participants; ensure students achieve academic and social gains targeted in the annual operating goals
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with schools and school-district personnel; work with BELL’s senior leadership team to establish and maintain relationships with state and local officials, foundations, and revenue opportunities; ensure high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Provide strategic leadership of all team members by demonstrating consistent and effective personnel and performance management
  • Analyze business opportunities; contribute to the development of annual operating goals; lead regional growth targets
  • Manage regional operations; communicate and manage annual operating goals throughout the region; manage regional and/or site-based compliance regulations

Qualifications:

  • Passionate commitment to BELL’s mission and educational approach
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in education or related field managing a multi-site operation with proven visionary leadership and strong strategic planning capability
  • Demonstrated experience managing a company or nonprofit organization during a start-up and/or high-growth phase
  • Proven abilities in operations and financial management, including business development, budgeting and P&L responsibility
  • High level of organizational and political sophistication, specifically as it relates to building collaborative, strategic partnerships and relationships with senior level stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including writing, public speaking and presentation skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of the Southeastern Florida school systems preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree in Business, Education or Social Work preferred
