JOB TITLE:  SUMMER ENRICHMENT TEACHER

POSITION SUMMARY
Each Summer Enrichment Teacher creates and leads a specific enrichment program that augments the academic program, supports the summer learning objectives, and reflects the summer theme. Enrichment Teachers are responsible for fully engaging the scholars in enrichment learning. Summer Enrichment Teachers’ regular schedule consists of work in the afternoons Monday through Thursday and in the mornings on Friday.

BELL is specifically seeking Summer Enrichment Teachers who offer expertise and experience in the following areas:

  • Visual or performing arts, e.g., dance, theater, music, mixed media
  • Science
  • Sports
  • Technology
  • Social studies
Please note, BELL does not provide Enrichment Teachers with a set curriculum. Enrichment teachers are required to implement an 18-hour or 36-hour enrichment lesson series of their own design or utilizing a pre-designed curriculum of their own selection.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare classroom for daily activities, work collaboratively with Academic Teachers to ensure activities are linked to academic objectives
  • Develop and implement appropriate enrichment classes for all scholar age levels
  • Evaluate scholars and prepare progress reports; create scholar portfolios with support from the Teacher’s Assistant
  • Provide classroom behavior management and behavioral interventions with support from the Teacher’s Assistant
  • Create and direct class projects for BELL Closing Ceremony
  • Conduct administrative tasks such as attendance checking, photocopying, and maintenance of classroom supplies
  • Ensure academic and social goals are achieved by every scholar.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of the Teacher’s Assistant
  • Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Passion for working with urban elementary school children
  • Bachelor’s degree, Master's preferred
  • 3+ years experience teaching a specific enrichment topic (i.e. sports, arts, science) to elementary age children
