NOW HIRING   Summer Academic Teacher
     
Position Summary   Summer Academic Teachers are the primary support to ensure the academic and social development of BELL summer scholars. Using BELL’s summer curriculum, the Summer Academic Teacher creates and leads lessons and activities for scholars that will support basic academic skill development and reflect the summer theme. Summer Academic Teachers’ regular schedule will require work in the mornings.

Major Responsibilities and Duties  
  • Prepare classroom for daily activities, work collaboratively with other Teachers and Teacher’s Assistants
  • Plan and deliver daily lessons with support from Teacher’s Assistant
  • Assign homework; review and correct all homework, quizzes, and tests with support from the Teacher’s Assistant
  • Evaluate scholars and prepare progress reports; administer assessments and create scholar portfolios with support from the Teacher’s Assistant
  • Provide classroom behavior management and behavioral interventions with support from the Teacher’s Assistant
  • Work to engage parents/guardians through phone calls, regular progress communication, and parent/teacher conferences.
  • Conduct administrative tasks such as attendance checking, photocopying, and maintenance of classroom supplies
  • Ensure academic and social goals are achieved by every scholar.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of the Teacher’s Assistant
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements  
  • Passion for working with urban elementary school children
  • Bachelor’s degree, Master's preferred
  • Teaching certification
  • 3-5 years experience teaching in elementary school setting
