| Core Skills Responsibilities |
The Deputy Director of Development is a new position at BELL. BELL is currently enjoying a high growth period in both our regional expansion and fundraising efforts. This position is key to supporting market
expansion through fundraising within the local community. In addition, fundraising efforts are essential to supporting successful program management and operations in communities where BELL currently operates. The Deputy Director is expected to be able to oversee a high production of successful proposals which are extremely well written and meticulous in their presentation. The Deputy Director is accountable for ensuring their respective staff of Grant Writers become skilled and effective in their writing and editing skills resulting in high volume of “world class” proposals. The Deputy Director will perform account management activities over their funder base of accounts. The Deputy Director is expected to be an integral part of a deeply talented Development Team.
Responsibilities include: (a) implementing successful fundraising tactics in the foundation, corporate and high net worth individuals segments; (b) working with the Director of Development to continually improve organizational operating systems; (c) increasing the impacts of our fundraising programs, especially in new regions; (d) prospecting for new opportunities; and (e) ensuring effective relations with existing accounts, core supporters and other constituents.
Specific skills and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide Strategic Leadership—demonstrate consistent and effective fundraising techniques in the execution of a long-term development strategy to sustain and improve the fiscal health of the organization; problem solve; analyze business opportunities; conduct periodic strategy and administrative sessions with the Director of Development; help establish and develop fundraising efforts in new BELL regions. Strong command of the program and sales story.
- Ensure Quality in Service Delivery—manage to a standard of excellence in the fundraising functions and activities. Cultivate funders in assigned regions. Ability to work cross functionally. Smooth operations of the fundraising process and management of accounts and relationships. Smooth operations include but not limited to confirmation of submissions of proposals and materials to Funders; ensuring regular communications such as e-Newsletter’s are administered; maintaining an Annual Development Calendar of key submissions, confirmations, events, and follow up activity; and operating by a time management standard reducing “emergency requests” to a minimum.
- Manage Regional Team—.Solicit, prepare and manage a high volume of superior quality fundraising proposals. Acquire, manage, cultivate, and follow up with Funder account relationships. Maintain, manage, and monitor CRM system (Salesforce.Com); ensuring all accounts are current in data; ensure all account activity is resolved in advance of requirements. Critical account activity includes but not limited to deadlines for reports, proposals, and submissions. Position may include managing a staff of Grant Writers. If so, coaching and training the Grant Writer team in the art of fundraising. Ensure a culture of fundraising standard of excellence is instilled in the Grant Writers.
Develop and Maintain Partnerships—ensure strong, positive relationships with corporations, foundations, government agencies, and potential individual donors; identify, research and investigate new opportunities for funding from a wide variety of philanthropic and government individual sources; ensure high level of customer satisfaction. Maintain a strong account relationship with Funders.

- Meet or exceed fundraising goals for the fiscal year.
- Develop, maintain and cultivate a robust opportunity pipeline of at least 3 times annual goal with a 20%
increase in the number of funders.
- Expand foundation, corporate, individual and government funding by 20%.
- Assure accurate and timely maintenance of BELL’s CRM system (Safesforce.com).

| Experience |
Bachelor’s degree required, MBA/Masters Degree preferred, specializing in Non Profit Management or
Development. Minimum 5 years experience in Non-Profit or Business sector with at least 3 years in development. Demonstrated experience in managing a fundraising efforts of at least $3M.
Understand how to manage unexpected events and occurrences with confidence and flexibility. Thrive in a fast paced and highly entrepreneurial organization. Maintain a tenacious commitment to exceeding goals. Demonstrate a passion and commitment to improving the quality of education for children living in under resourced communities. |

Able to travel 15% to 25% per year. Can extend work hours beyond 40 hours per week as required. |
